David Frances Barry

David Frances Barry is considered to be one of the finest frontier photographers. He moved to Columbus, WI in 1861 where he met the traveling photographer Orlando Goff. In 1878, Goff hired Barry as an apprentice in his studio located in Bismarck in the North Dakota Territory. David Frances Barry earned a reputation as a photographer capable of capturing the true experience of the Western frontier. He created one of the first traveling studios and settled in Bismarck where he became known as a friend to those of both Native American and European descent. During his lifetime, Barry would produce hundreds of photos that would find a nationwide market.
