Jane Brite

A consistent patron, curator, administrator and innovator on the Milwaukee and Wisconsin art scenes, Jane Brite is a consultant to community arts groups, specializing in after school art programs. She co-authored Art After School, a successful way to reach youth in a step-by-step manual on how to establish after school art programs. Jane was the Milwaukee Art Center’s manager of the Collector’s Gallery and Chairman of Art Acquisitions from 1962-1971. The following year she opened the Stonehouse Gallery in Cedarburg and built it into one of Wisconsin’s top regional art resources. From Cedarburg, Jane returned to the Milwaukee Art Museum as an Assistant Curator/Administrator, working on exhibitions and specializing in regional art at the Cudahy Gallery, creating shows and working on the nationally-acclaimed Lakefront Festival of the Arts. Jane was a guest curator at the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C. and at the Toledo Museum of Art where she curated “Contemporary Crafts and the Saks Collection”, a national exhibition. She has authored and published numerous articles about art.
