Lois Ehlert

Lois Ehlert was born in 1934 in Beaver Dam, WI. She is well known for writing and illustrating over three dozen visually distinctive books. Ehlert’s book Color Zoo won the prestigious national Caldecott Honor Award. Additional honors received by Ehlert include the IRA Teachers’ Choice and NCTE Notable Children’s Trade Book in the Language Arts for Feathers for Lunch and the American Library Association Notable Children’s book and the Boston Globe – Horn Book Award for Chicka Chicka Boom-Boom. Ehlert is a living treasure in Wisconsin who creates books that are both deceptively simple, yet challenging, while still being aesthetically pleasing.
