Lucia Stern

Year inducted: 2013
1895-1987

Lucia Stern was a prolific Milwaukee-reared artist and lecturer.  Stern’s non-objective works based on simple geometric shapes and abstract designs found a sympathetic response in Europe as well as the United States.  In 1977 the Milwaukee Art Center held a retrospective exhibition covering nearly seven decades of her restless but consistently innovative productivity.  Stern was known as much for her eloquent advocacy of the visual arts as for her own, internationally exhibited artworks.
