In the world of artist-created environments, few come close to Tom Every’s Forevertron in North Freedom, near Baraboo, Wisconsin. A former scrap metal dealer, Every saved everything and totally believes in the value of castoff materials and recycling. He assisted in creating elements in the famous House On the Rock. His experience in handling huge objects and his creative zeal resulted in a series of mechanical fantasies with dimensions as grandiose as his imagination. The centerpiece and grandest of the sculptures is The Forevertron, a 320 ton structure that reaches skyward some 50 feet and spans approximately 120 feet. A stockpiling of all the shapes, forms and mechanisms of the industrial age, with parts gathered from all over world, it is capped by a copper-clad glass ball and a constructed space capsule.
