William Gerdts

William Gerdts is Professor Emeritus of Art History at the Graduate School of City University of New York. He is the author of over 25 books on American art including Art Across America – Two Centuries of Regional Painting 1710-1920 (Abbeville Press, 1990). An expert in American Impressionism, he is well known for his work on nineteenth-century American still-life painting. His three-volume work, Art Across America, is considered a seminal work in reawakening interest and appreciation of the arts in individual states such as Wisconsin, and fostering the growth of institutions dedicated to state and region-focused art.
