Abraham Cohn

Year inducted: 2010

Abraham Cohn began his formal training in painting, however, once he was introduced to clay he all but abandoned brushes and canvas. Consequently, he has been a full-time professional ceramist since 1953 when he set up a workshop in his Milwaukee basement. Cohn works clay into an artistic expression of form and function. Cohn has also trained many ceramists at his Potter’s Wheel Gallery in Door County, which also exhibits over 40 noted potters. As one of Wisconsin’s leading ceramists, in 1964 he was the first craftsman ever to be given a solo exhibition at the Milwaukee Art Museum. He is a founding member of the Door County Potters Guild.
